Endovenous Laser Therapy (EVLT)
Ultrasound
Endovenous Laser Machine
EVLT is the latest method currently being used for the treatment of major leg veins, previously treated by stripping surgery under general anesthesia. The procedure involves placing a laser fiber under ultrasound guidance into the abnormal leg vein through a minute skin incision. The vein is then numbed with a local anesthetic and the laser is activated to treat the abnormal vein. The published success rate of EVLT falls between 95-98%, with far fewer complications as compared to surgery.
